    • Sub-Zero Refrigerator Repair in Irvine, CA

    This unit, the Sub-Zero 700, was randomly shutting off every couple of days, going completely blank and non-operable. When the customer reset the circuit breaker, the unit started normally until the problem occurred again. The customer didn’t notice any particular patterns of such behavior.

    When our technician arrived, he put the unit into factory diagnostic mode to read all the error codes. The system showed 5 error codes, including 24 (defrost underheat), 06 (refrigerator thermistor read open or shorted), and 40 (excessive freezer compressor run). After the technician cleared all the error codes and restarted the freezer, putting it into diagnostic mode again, the system showed other error codes not related to the previous readings.

    If the main control board is showing a lot of error codes, and most of them are not related to each other, that means it has a hardware or software problem that is not allowing it to manage system components properly. That said, the main control board needs to be replaced.

    But Sub-Zero electronic components are of very high quality. Why would the main board fail on a fairly new unit? Would it fail again?

    To address these questions, the technician took apart the unit and found that the drain line was clogged. The clogged drain not only allowed mildew to grow underneath the evaporator coil, but it also caused excessive moisture to circulate inside the freezer. Electronics don’t like humidity and moisture that much, and that’s why the main control board failed.

    The technician cleaned the drain line and replaced the main control board. A 1-year warranty is applied to the labor and the parts.
