It’s a common issue for GE French door refrigerators due to a failed evaporator fan inside the fresh food compartment. When the fan isn’t running, air isn’t circulated within the fridge, leading to an unhealthy and potentially dangerous situation. The compressor runs continuously in an attempt to satisfy the thermistor on the ceiling, but without proper air circulation, the thermistor remains unsatisfied, causing the compressor to overheat and burn its oil. But what caused the fan to fail? In this particular case, it was a clogged drain line. This resulted in higher humidity inside the fresh food compartment, which ultimately caused problems with the fan, leading to its failure.
